Soetta Airport Achieves the Highest Safe Travel Score in Southeast Asia

ECONOMIC ZONE – The global Safe Travel Barometer institute assesses Soekarno Hatta (Soetta) airport is the safest airport in Southeast Asia for airplane passengers to travel in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is based on an assessment carried out in May 2021 with a Safe Travel score (Safe Travel Score) reaching 4.3 out of a 5.0 scale. A score of 4.3 is the highest score compared to other airports in the Asean region.

Meanwhile in the Asia-Pacific region, Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Changi Airport share second place, where first place is Beijing International Capital Airport (China) with a score of 4.4. At the global level, Soekarno-Hatta Airport is ranked 14th.

“Innovation, collaboration, and the commitment and desire of all stakeholders in protecting the aviation sector are able to make Soekarno-Hatta Airport achieve the highest Safe Travel Score in Asean, number two in Asia-Pacific, and number 14 at the global level,” said the President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero), Muhammad Awaluddin in Jakarta, Wednesday (1/9).

Several innovations carried out by Angkasa Pura II at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in strengthening health protocols in the midst of a pandemic through Biosecurity Management which consists of maintaining distance, health checks, touchless services/facilities, facility cleanliness and people protection.

“Maintaining distance is implemented in all airport areas such as security check points, check-in counters, boarding lounges, elevators, toilets and so on. Everyone who enters the terminal building must go through a body temperature check with a thermal scanner and smart helmets used by aviation personnel “Body temperature checks are also carried out in the international arrivals area. Meanwhile, checking of COVID-19 test results is also carried out in the domestic departures area, through validation of the PeduliLindungi application barcode,” he added.

Angkasa Pura II Soetta Airport is also developing touchless services/facilities (passenger touchless processing). Passenger touchless processing is massively implemented, such as: paperless validation for health documents using the PeduliLindungi application; self check-in using a travelin machine or application; use of full body scanner machines at security check points to examine prospective passengers; customer service that uses video (video customer assistant/VICA), to adjusting elevator buttons.
The cleanliness aspect of the entire airport area remains of utmost concern, coupled with routine disinfection of all facilities for passengers such as chairs, trolleys, lifts, tables, toilets and so on. Travelator and escalator handrails, as well as conveyor belts in baggage claim areas now also use UV sterilizers. Everyone at the airport is required to wear a mask, while airport personnel use personal protective equipment (PPE) according to their respective duties. “Biosafety management has a program for handling biohazards, routine monitoring of environmental conditions in the midst of a pandemic, sterilization of all infrastructure, ensuring the creation of health among the public, one of which is by providing laboratory testing facilities for COVID-19,” said the Senior General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Agus Haryadi.

For your information, Soeta Airport has received global recognition several times regarding health protocols, including: Airport Health Accreditation from Airport Council International (ACI), Best Hygiene Measures by Region (Asia-Pacific) from ACI, The 2021 COVID-19 Airport Excellence Awards from Skytrax, and most recently the Safe Travel Score 4.3 from the Safe Travel Barometer.
