The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has been rated as the third safest airport in the country by Safe Travel
Barometer, which maintains a database of covid-19 health and safety protocols.
The airport that has resumed commercial operations from May 25 onwards is behind New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
As per the Safe Travel Barometer, KIA scored 4 on a scale of 5 while the other two airports both scored 4.3 each on the safe travel score.
Apart from these three, airports of seven other Indian cities were also on the Safe Travel Barometer list. The airports in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune followed Bengaluru on the list.
More than 20 health and travel measures provided at the airport were accessed, which include covid-19 Test Upon Arrival, traveller thermal screening, traveller face masks, traveller hand sanitiser, traveller health declaration form, contact tracing App, staff thermal screening, staff face masks, staff hand sanitizer, plexiglass/staff face shields, staff PPE kits, staff face shields, boarding gate area disinfection frequency, contactless check in kiosks, contactless baggage drop, vacant adjacent seat, disinfection of high touch surfaces, contactless immigration kiosks, smoking area/zone inside terminals, toilets disinfection frequency and covid-19 test cost.
Topping the global list in the safe travel score were the Hamad International Airport, Heathrow Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Dubai International Airport with a travel score of 4.4 out of 5.
Quad is back in action
The Quad, a first-of-its-kind airport F&B plaza in India, which was frequented by Bengalureans in the pre-Covid times is once again buzzing as a band performed there on Saturday. The Moksha Academy All Stars, comprising musicians from the city, performed at The Quad.
The group plays different genres of music and has done over 30 gigs across the country.
Prior to allowing live events at The Quad, BIAL said it has put in place safety measures to ensure a safe experience for visitors with a heightened cleaning regime before and after the event. “Visitors would be encouraged to maintain a safe distance, and sanitisers would be available at multiple places across The Quad,” it had said.
