Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport(IGIA) is now the second safest airport in the world, according to Safe Travel Barometer. Safe Travel Barometer is a global database that has given Safe Travel Score to airports worldwide based on coronavirus health and safety protocols. Delhi ranked second in terms of safety, scoring 4.6 on a scale of 5. Singapore’s Changi Airport has emerged as the safest airport in the world, scoring 4.7 out of 5. Along with Delhi Airport, Frankfurt Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport have also bagged the second position. A German man had also made Delhi Airport his temporary home amid lockdown.
Delhi Airport Second Safest Airport In The World; Bangalore Airport Gets The Third Rank
The Safe Travel Barometer evaluated the COVID-19 safety protocols of more than 200 airports worldwide and gave them scores of out 5. Bagging a score of 4.7, Singapore’s Changi Airport emerged as the safest airport in the world. The Indira Gandhi International Airport(IGIA) of Delhi got the second position, scoring 4.6 out of 5.
With the same score, Frankfurt Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport have also bagged the second position. UAE’s Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) , Dubai International Airport and Bengaluru Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) have bagged the third position, each scoring 4.5 out of 5.
Delhi Airport Is The Safest Airport In India Now
According to a report by the New Indian Express, a press statement by the DIAL reads, “With this achievement, Delhi Airport also becomes India’s safest airport for various safety measures taken to help control the spread of coronavirus. These include the launch of RT-PCR testing laboratory, implementation of touchless initiatives to enhance the passenger experience, UV based disinfection process and development of AIR SUVIDHA portal for easy and hassle-free arrival process of India-bound international passengers.”
Co-Founder and CEO of Safe Travel, Virendra Jain has stated in the Safe Travel Barometer website, “The successive release of the Safe Travel Score for airlines and airports allows us to piece together a holistic view of air travel, beginning from the airside all the way through on-board experiences. Our independent rating centred on traveller health and safety measures establishes a baseline for travel brands, while equally offering travellers a glimpse into what they can expect in their journeys.”
